Sun Hui erhu artist
Winner of the Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award in 2018, Sun Hui (Tsun-Hui Hung 洪充惠) was born in Taiwan. She has achieved notable success in her career, including receiving the esteemed Outstanding Artist Award at the Taiwan National Erhu Competition. After completing her Ph.D. in Ethnomusicology at The Ohio State University, Sun Hui has continued to make significant contributions to music through collaborations with diverse contemporary composers and musicians spanning World, Western-classical, Chinese, and other musical genres. Her performances have been featured at prestigious venues worldwide.
Residing in Hawaii since 2016, her aspiration is to serve as an ambassador for the erhu, introducing its music to audiences around the world. She was also the Tai Chi champion in Taiwan.
